1 Corinthians 15:33 KJV
Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.
How amazing we notice that the big Wall suddenly caved in and succumbed to the little but constant dropping of the water. At onset, it will sound somewhat ridiculous to imagine the possibility of that little drops of water breaking such a hardened brick. So it is when we dismiss with a wave of hand that what we keep hearing day in day out is not capable of influencing who we are and mould in us a character that was never in us.
The scriptures talk at length about not only being careful of the words that come out of our mouths but also what we hear and how we give vent to them.
Ephesians 4:29 says,
'Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.' It is then obvious that if what we speak or hear does not build, it destroys, if it does not corrupt good manners, it certainly promotes good characters, if what you hear doesn't encourage you, it will definitely discourage. Ephesians 5:4 also warned:
'Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.'
In as much as you continue to enjoy the company of those who have no respect for 'seasoning every word with salt' you will soon realise that, gradually, evil and abominable jests, which bleeds the hearts of the people they are addressed to with sorrow, will no longer tingle your ear. It will no longer irritate you when you hear people maliciously defaming somebody's character. It will no longer make anything different to you to hear people speaking only negative things either to themselves or to others. If it endears to you, no sooner will you not only start to reason same way but have your character being gradually shaped alike.
Finally the scripture asks, 'Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom'—James 3:13 KJV.
HAVE A FRUITFUL AND BLISSFUL WEEK.
